How to Play a Tennis League on Courtlio: Rules, Formats and Match Flow

A tennis league is organized competition where players play multiple matches over a season and results are tracked by league rules.

On Courtlio, leagues usually run as ladder or round-robin. Core flow: Join → Enter the season → Learn opponents → Schedule → Play → Submit result → Opponent confirms → Track standings.

Each league's details appear on its season page; this guide explains shared Courtlio rules and format differences.

How a Courtlio tennis league works

A Courtlio league season follows this flow:

Some leagues may offer prizes from Courtlio or partners by placement; this depends on league type, city, and period — not guaranteed.

  1. Register via Leagues → Explore.
  2. Free leagues: registration waits for organizer approval.
  3. Paid leagues: payment through Courtlio auto-confirms registration.
  4. Opponents are set by format or via challenges.
  5. Matches are played; scores submitted in the app.
  6. Opponent confirms or disputes.
  7. Confirmed results update league standings and Elo where applicable.

Ladder league

Players sit on a ranking list. Challenge opponents above you within the allowed rank range. Challenges auto-accept; a match is created with a play-by deadline (default 10 days). Winner jumps over the opponent (jump_over). Default match format: best of 3 sets.

  • Rank 1–10: up to 4 ranks above
  • Rank 11–50: up to 10 ranks above
  • Rank 51+: up to 20 ranks above

Round-robin league

Players face others in the group. Limit on rematches (default: once per opponent). Match offers need opponent approval — not auto-accepted. Standings use win/draw/loss points (default 3/1/0; draws off by default).

Registration: free vs paid leagues

Free: Leagues → Explore → Register → pending until organizer approves. Paid: fee shown on league page → pay through Courtlio → payment auto-confirms registration; no organizer approval queue. App download is free; court costs are separate.

Club membership and season status

Some leagues require club membership — apply via Explore → Clubs first. Registration only when registration_open. Active round-robin seasons may not accept new entries.

Match organization

Ladder: send challenge → auto-accept → schedule by deadline → play → submit. Round-robin: send offer → accept/decline → schedule → play → submit. Open match requests and direct challenges are outside league rules.

Scoring and standings

Round-robin default: 3/1/0. Tie-breakers: head_to_head, matches_won, set_difference. Ladder: position-based jump_over. Elo updates after confirmed rated matches; league table is separate. NTRP is self-reported level, not Elo.

Reporting match results

  1. Submit score in the app.
  2. Result pending; opponent notified (Matches → Action required).
  3. Opponent confirms or disputes.
  4. On approval, standings and Elo update.
  5. Disputes resolved in partner portal. Submitter cannot self-confirm.

Expired ladder challenge

If the play-by deadline passes without completion, forfeit may apply. Default penalty: challenger drops 1 rank; match cancelled. No auto-forfeit while extension is pending.
